IMI History

IMI was founded in 1986 by Dave Stark and Bob Watters. In IMI’s first 2 decades of business IMI was a Millwright contractor that successfully completed many interesting and exciting projects. For the early years, IMI built automation systems, patented equipment, and moved large industrial machinery. Our customers included Purina, Coors, Post Office, US Federal Governement, DIA, space systems companies, can manufacturing, and many more. To compliment the millwright operations and automation systems, Dave and Bob developed a steel shop. This allowed IMI to build the mezzanines and access platforms necessary for the automation systems. Over the years, as a prime contractor, we gained extensive knowledge and understanding about what expectations owners and end users have. As the company entered the early 2000’s many of our customers asked us to pursue steel projects. We successfully completed these projects and we continued to expand our steel capabilities and knowledge. Through the recession steel projects made up 90% of IMI’s work load and as the recession ended we decided to commit to steel being our only focus. We have used this experience of working directly for end users and owners to help support our current customer base of GC’s and Developers. In 2005 IMI’s current CEO and President joined IMI. Jeff worked for Dave and Bob for close to a decade before acquiring the company. Currently IMI continues to thrive and expand our capabilities in order to support the construction industry as one of its premier Structural Steel, Misc. Metals, Precast Installation contractors.
