Our History

With nearly 4 decades of experience, IMI has deep knowledge of the construction industry and has worked with a number of notable brands, large and small.

April 18, 1986

IMI was founded

IMI was incorporated in the State of Colorado in 1986 and moved to a new facility in 1992. As a Milwright contractor, IMI successfully completed many innovative projects for companies like Purina, Coors, DIA, and the US Federal Government.

The 80s and 90s

The Early Years

During the first two decades of operations, IMI built automation systems, patented equipment, and moved large industrial machinery. The company continued expanding into specialty fabrication, field equipment, and supplies.

Early 2000s

Our First Steel Projects

In the early 2000s, IMI developed a steel shop in order to meet customers’ demands for steel projects. Over the years, IMI’s steel capabilities and knowledge expanded to make up 90% of the company’s projects.

2016

IMI’s New CEO

Jeff McConlogue joined IMI in 2005. When he became the company’s CEO in 2016, IMI committed to focusing on steel projects. Since then, IMI has continued to expand its capabilities to become the construction industry’s premier structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and precast installation contractor. To accommodate IMI’s growth, the company moved to their 3rd facility in 2018.

Our Facility

Based in Sedalia, Colorado, IMI’s 25,000 square foot facility fabricates anywhere between 1,000-2,000 pieces of steel on any given day. Given the sheer volume of fabrication, IMI follows a strict set of AISC-compliant regulations. This ensures every piece that leaves the facility meets a quality standard and that the team stays safe. IMI continues to modernize their equipment to support the company’s growing list of clients. To support their clients’ needs, IMI has invested in top-of-the-line machinery like CNC tube and rail machines, CNC press brakes, CNC plasma, and saws capable of cutting 42” beams.

Why IMI

Quality

IMI uses a stringent quality control program throughout each project to make sure all materials meet industry benchmarks. IMI starts with 3D models and implements project document control, inventory control, bar code tracking and shop quality checks, throughout each project. Shipping and installation is also closely monitored to ensure safety and quality. Each piece of this process organized within their ERP system, creating a streamlined, repeatable program that ensures quality and safety on every project.

Safety

IMI takes safety seriously and follows The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC)’s regulations during the creation and erection of every structure. By putting worker safety first, IMI retains high-quality talent and helps avoid accidents that can cause serious injuries or project delays.
